“Kelp-nook” is an unusual name. Tangkrogen means “The Kelp-nook”. But why would a park be named after seaweed?

Tangkrogen is a public park in Aarhus. It sits where the city meets the sea. Imagine this area long ago. When recreational jetties were built, kelp washed ashore. So much kelp drifted ashore, it gave Tangkrogen its name.

This park is more than just grass and trees. Tangkrogen is an event venue. It covers almost 10 acres. That’s a lot of space for fun.

The central area is Cirkus Pladsen. It is a 2700-acre space. It’s covered in clay. Circuses love it here. Markets and events use it too. They need space for heavy equipment.

Next to Cirkus Pladsen are grassy fields. These fields span 3400 acres. They are tough. Tents and smaller structures fit well here. The rest of the park is for relaxing. There are 3707 acres of grass, trees, and bushes. People come here every day.

Tangkrogen has hosted many big events. The annual solstitial celebration takes place here. Sculpture by the Sea has been displayed here. Circuses, the Food Festival, fairs, markets, festivals, and concerts have all been held in Tangkrogen.

Up to 20,000 visitors can enjoy Tangkrogen. There are water fountains. Sewers and public toilets are available. Parking is easy. There are 500 spaces nearby. Public transport is also close.

Tangkrogen is bordered by Strandvejen and Marselis Havnevej. Chr. Filtenborgs Plads is across the street. The park is close to the city center and Marselis Wood. It is perfect for a walk.

Even without an event, Tangkrogen is great. You can walk with family or your loved one. Enjoy the view. You can even visit Marselisborg Marina. Get an ice cream. Look at the boats. Tangkrogen offers something for everyone. It is a place where the city celebrates. It is a place where memories are made. So, remember the name. Tangkrogen is more than just a park. It is a part of Aarhus.
