Established in 1976 Tangaroa College stands proudly in Otara Auckland. It’s more than just a school. It’s a vibrant hub of learning and cultural exchange. Tangaroa College serves students from years 9 to 13. The school’s motto Waiho I Te Toka Tu Moana means Stand Firm on the Rock in the Ocean. The college is incredibly diverse. Its student body reflects the multicultural fabric of Otara. A significant portion of students identify as Pacific Islanders. The National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) is the main qualification. Year 9 students follow a core curriculum. From Year 10 onwards they choose optional subjects. A whare wānanga is a traditional Māori meeting house. It’s a space for cultural learning and connection. The school also has a well-resourced library and a new gymnasium. These are referred to as blocks including blocks for technology Māori social sciences arts computing English physical education and health services academy drama and employment studies as well as one for science and mathematics.
