Founded on June 1 1906 Talleres de Remedios de Escalada boasts a rich history. Originally named Talleres United Football Club it was a fusion of two local teams. This reflects a tradition of Argentinian clubs adopting English names a trend seen in many other clubs. Talleres faced early financial struggles. The team was inactive between 1908 and 1915. In 1915 it affiliated with the Argentine Football Association. They played in Primera C before rising to Division Intermedia.
By 1920 the club’s name was shortened to Talleres Football Club. Five years later it reached Primera Division Argentina’s top tier. Around this time Talleres acquired land for its headquarters and playing field. Eventually the club settled on its current name Club Atletico Talleres.
In 1934 a brief merger with Club Atletico Lanus created La Union Talleres-Lanus. This lasted only a year. Talleres remained in Primera until relegation in 1938. The club’s red and white vertical stripes came from the legendary Alumni Athletic Club. Alumni dominated Argentine football winning ten Primera Division titles between 1900 and 1911.
Beyond football Talleres embraced many sports. In 1945 a swimming pool was added boosting social activities. Basketball water polo swimming and athletics were incorporated. The club faced bankruptcy in 1999 but rebounded after an agreement with Velez Sarsfield. The bankruptcy was finally lifted in 2008.
