Taipei City Council was formed in 1946. This followed Taiwan’s handover to the Republic of China. The council initially met in Zhongshan Hall. This was in Zhongzheng District. In 1964, the council relocated. It moved to Zhongxiao West Road and Zhongshan South Road. This location was also in Zhongzheng District. The building occupied 42965 square meters.

Fast forward to today. The Taipei City Council now resides in Xinyi District. Its current building opened on October 8 1990. This location is within the History Project Area of Taipei.

So is a Transportation Committee. The Police and Sanitation Committee ensures public safety. The Public Works and Legislation Committees complete the structure.
