Ever dream of escaping to a secluded paradise? Tagomago is Ibiza’s best-kept secret. It is a true hidden gem waiting to be discovered.

Tagomago Island lies just 900 meters off Ibiza’s northeastern coast. It offers serenity and beauty. This private island spans over 600,000 square meters. It is accessible only by boat.

Tagomago Island holds a rich history. Its name may come from the Arabic word “Tajo”. “Tajo” means “to cut”. This might refer to its rugged coastline.

Tagomago has served as a lookout point for ancient civilizations. Its elevated terrain was ideal for a lighthouse. The Tagomago lighthouse was built in 1913. It guides ships to Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona. It stands 86.3 meters above sea level. Its height is 20.4 meters.

Tagomago was used as a waypoint for ships between Europe and North Africa. In the 20th century, ownership changed. It became a privately owned island.

The name Tagomago might mean “rock Mago”. This refers to Mago Barca. He was Hannibal’s brother. In the Muslim era, it was Taj Umayu.

Tagomago is 1,525 meters long and 113 meters wide. The island is rocky. It has a port. The island boasts a lighthouse in the extreme southeast.

Did you know that the German krautrock band Can named their second album after Tagomago? It is called Tago Mago.

Tagomago has recently become a nature reserve. This protects its beauty and biodiversity. The island is committed to ecological sustainability.

Some rocks bear art from the hippie movement. Tagomago’s west bay serves as a natural harbor. A boat dock is there. Besides the dock and lighthouse, a villa built in the 1980s stands inland. It has its own desalination plant and power supply.

Tagomago was believed to be settled in the 8th century BC. It later served as a pirate warehouse. A small fishing village existed in the late 19th century. It was later abandoned. In the 1930s, the Pujol family owned Tagomago. During the Spanish Civil War, Franco’s regime seized the island. It was for defense purposes. Later, Tagomago was sold to Prince Emich zu Leiningen. After inheritance disputes, his heirs sold the island.

Currently, Matthias Kühn owns Tagomago. He rents the villa out by the week. Tagomago became known in Germany. This was due to Sabine Christiansen’s wedding celebration.

Tagomago includes two nature reserves. They are designated under the EU Habitat Directive. They are areas of community importance.

One reserve includes the island. The surrounding sea areas are also included. Another reserve covers the sea area between Ibiza and Tagomago. Poseidonia seagrass meadows thrive there.

Tagomago: a blend of history, nature, and exclusivity. It offers an escape into a world of timeless elegance.
