Originally, there were Grundtvigskolen and Bispebjerg Skole. In 1936-38 F.C. Lund built the original Grundtvigskolen. Later, these two merged to become Tagensbo Skole within the existing Grundtvigskolen buildings. The location underwent extensive renovations.
The merger aimed at pedagogical advancement. Tagensbo Skole added 4500 square meters. This extension provided new staff facilities. A canteen and food skills classrooms were also added. A large open multi-hall was built.
The original gymnasiums transformed into creative workshops. These became after-school clubs. The beautiful auditorium serves as the school’s pedagogical heart. It now hosts a pedagogical learning center. The layout emphasizes cohesive year group areas. These areas provide easy access to shared subject facilities. A central axis of common areas promotes community.
Kjaer & Richter designed Tagensbo Skole. They are part of Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects. Nøhr & Sigsgaard architects handled the project. Bascon engineers and GHB landscape contributed. The transformation completed in 2012. The design won first prize.
The new facilities have a simple architectural style. This style complements the original architecture. Colorful acoustic panels decorate corridors and common areas. These panels are color-coded to match the original buildings. This creates a consistent visual link between the old and new sections.
The partially sunken multi-hall is a striking feature. It has a green active roof. Large ramps offer direct access to the terrain. Access is available from all school levels. It provides direct access to outdoor sports facilities. The hall’s roof integrates into the school’s sparse outdoor areas. The multi-hall also functions as a cultural center. It serves the neighborhood outside of school hours.
