Welcome to the Szent Korona Domb Sculpture a unique national rendezvous point. It is located in the garden of the Máriaremetei Kisboldogasszony Basilica in Budapest. The Szent Korona Domb Sculpture embodies the spirit of the Holy Crown.
In 2003 about 5000 Hungarians from across the Carpathian Basin gathered here. They brought with them nearly 1500 handfuls of soil from their homelands. Participants also poured water from the rivers of the Carpathian Basin onto the soil. This act transformed the site into a sacred space. It became a symbol of national unity.
The history of the Szent Korona Domb Sculpture is intertwined with the return of the Hungarian Holy Crown in 1978. This event sparked a spiritual awakening. It strengthened historical identity throughout the Carpathian Basin. The Ember Fia Foundation created a mystery play. It was called the Fénykorona Ceremony and Oath-Taking. Its goal was to ennoble the Hungarian nation.
During the ceremony local people placed enlarged replicas of apostles and saints onto a crown model. Historical and moral messages were delivered. Participants pledged to follow the ideals of the Holy Crown. They vowed to preserve heritage, love fellow humans and serve family. They also pledged to serve the nation, humanity, and protect life.
In the early 2000s a group of citizens in Pesthidegkút embraced the Holy Crown doctrine. They aimed to strengthen national unity. With support from the Ember Fia Foundation the Fénykorona Ceremony was held here in 2003.
Visitors brought soil from their settlements. They placed it on a prepared mound. This created a symbolic memorial. The Szent Korona Domb Sculpture “Őrzők” a team of volunteers became its guardians. They arranged stones and flowers. These resembled the Holy Crown’s bands.
In 2009 the guardians transformed the mound into the Szent Korona Domb Sculpture. They used stones from Hárshegy. They erected a cross and planted evergreen ivy. Volunteers gave the surroundings a new look in 2019. They created a map of Greater Hungary. They covered the area with gravel and added flower borders.
Today the Szent Korona Domb Sculpture hosts four annual celebrations. Participants continue to bring soil as a sign of unity. Pilgrims also add soil individually. The guardians keep a record of the soil’s origins in a memorial book.
