Perhaps you have heard the story of a field transformed. Today, we stand at the Suzhou Industrial Park. It is a testament to innovation and international collaboration.

Suzhou Industrial Park was born from a unique partnership. In 1994, China and Singapore joined forces. Their goal was to create a modern industrial area. It was part of China’s reform and opening-up. The park is governed jointly by Chinese and Singaporean officials.

Deng Xiaoping, China’s paramount leader, inspired this collaboration. He admired Singapore’s social order and management. He believed China could learn from their experience. Suzhou was chosen for its location near Shanghai. It also had a skilled labor force.

The China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park Development was listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 2019.

Initially, things were not easy. High rents and competition from Suzhou New District caused problems. Singaporean officials complained about the lack of support. Lee Kuan Yew even threatened to withdraw. In 1999, Singapore reduced its stake.

However, the Suzhou Industrial Park turned things around. New management lowered rents. This attracted more investors. By 2001, the park made its first profit.

Real estate became highly desirable. Scenic lakes and international schools drew residents. Apartment prices soared. Major companies like Nokia and Samsung set up operations. The government offered incentives for semiconductor development.

Today, the Suzhou Industrial Park is a success story. It contributes significantly to Suzhou’s economy. Many companies thrive here including 91 Fortune 500 companies.

The Suzhou Industrial Park spans 278 square kilometers. It is home to over 800,000 residents.

Its success has inspired others. North and South Korea modeled the Kaesong Industrial Region after it. The China-Belarus Industrial Park also used it as a model.

The park aims to attract high-tech industries. Biomedicine, nanotechnology, and artificial intelligence are key focuses.

The Suzhou Industrial Park has a good school system. It attracts many residents. There are numerous kindergartens, primary schools, and high schools. Suzhou Dushu Lake Higher Education Town is located here. It houses many universities.

The Suzhou Industrial Park is well-connected. The Beijing-Shanghai Expressway runs through it. Two high-speed railways serve the park.

The China-Singapore Joint Steering Council oversees the Suzhou Industrial Park development. It comprises Chinese and Singaporean officials.

The Suzhou Industrial Park administers four subdistricts. These are Loufeng, Xietang, Weiting, and Shengpu. It also has four residential communities.

Zhaorun Group and Zhongxin Group play key roles in the park’s development. They handle land development and investment.

In 2020, the park’s industries exceeded 500 billion yuan in output value. High-tech industries accounted for a significant portion.

The Suzhou Industrial Park continues to evolve. It deepens cooperation between China and Singapore. It fosters innovation and attracts global businesses. It is truly a model for industrial development. As we celebrate its achievements, let’s remember the vision and hard work that made it possible.
