Surp Santuht Ermeni Kilisesi was first built in the late 18th century. Over time this wooden church fell into disrepair. It was renovated in 1816 to address this. However, disaster struck again in the same year. The church was destroyed and its trustee Canig Amira was exiled. Even the administrators of the time faced harsh sentences.

But the story of Surp Santuht Ermeni Kilisesi doesn’t end there. In 1856, Canig Amira’s will led to the church’s rebuilding. Yet, in 1972, fire once again reduced it to ashes. Despite this repeated devastation, the community’s spirit remained unbroken. Patriarch Shinorhk initiated temporary repairs. This ensured that worship could continue even amid the ruins.

Finally, in 1978, a complete reconstruction was achieved. Patriarch Shinorhk reopened Surp Santuht Ermeni Kilisesi for worship. This marked a new chapter of hope.

The church received further support from philanthropists. In 2003 it underwent another restoration. Archbishop Aram Ateşyan consecrated it. It was reopened for worship. The most recent restoration took place in 2012. Bishop Sahak Maşalıyan consecrated the church.
