This little green space, named for the Great Lake, has seen its share of change over the years. It all started in 1950 when the city decided to build a playground on a plot of land. It wasn’t much, just gravel, swings, and slides, but it was a place for kids to gather after World War II. It got even more exciting in the 1980s when the City of Chicago transferred management to the Chicago Park District. They added a new, soft surface playground, one with a swing set, monkey bars, and a climbing structure that would make any kid squeal with delight. They even planted trees to provide some shade.
