Perhaps unexpectedly a fugitive sought refuge here. Welcome to Sumur Pacing. This village exists within the Karawaci district of Tangerang. It holds a unique story. The story involves a corruption case. The case involved funds meant for madrasahs.
In 2025, Mohamad Ripai was apprehended right here in Sumur Pacing. He had been a fugitive for 13 years. He was wanted for his involvement in a corruption case. The case concerned funds allocated to madrasah tsanawiyah in Pandeglang, Banten. Ripai’s capture occurred on Jalan RHM Noeradji. This is within the Kelurahan Sumur Pacing.
The Kejaksaan Tinggi Banten’s team captured him. Kasi Penkum Kejati Banten Rangga Adikresna spoke about the arrest. He confirmed that Ripai had been a fugitive since 2012. Ripai and another individual, KM Nawawi, had been convicted. The Pengadilan Tipikor Serang initially sentenced them. Their sentence was one year in prison.
Prosecutors appealed to the Mahkamah Agung. The court increased their sentence to four years. They also faced a fine of Rp 200 million. They faced an additional month in prison if they did not pay. Both individuals had already been released. They served their initial sentences before the appeal decision.
When authorities tried to bring them back into custody they fled. Ripai claimed he was unaware of the court’s decision. After his capture in Sumur Pacing, Ripai was taken to Kejati Banten. He underwent processing before returning to prison. He had to serve the remainder of his sentence. His previous time served would be deducted.
The corruption case dates back to 2010. The Direktorat Jenderal Pendidikan Islam provided block grant assistance to MTs. The Kanwil Kementerian Agama Banten nominated 60 MTs to receive this aid. One of them was MTs Annizhomiyah. It was located in Labuan, Pandeglang. It received Rp 90 million in aid.
Ripai and Nawawi posed as the Headmaster and Treasurer. They forged documents. They withdrew the funds under the instruction of Dadang Hasbulloh and Satrio Wibowo. Ened Kurnaedi was the real Headmaster. He discovered the scheme. He reported it to the Menes Police Station.
Sumur Pacing is more than just a village. It is a place where a long chase ended. It represents a chapter in the fight against corruption in Indonesia.
