Gaze upon the Sultan Reşad Türbesi. Its elegant lines speak of a bygone era. This isn’t just a tomb. It’s a testament to an empire’s final flourish a chapter in Ottoman history.

This octagonal structure in Eyüpsultan houses the remains of Sultan Reşad. He was the 35th Ottoman Sultan. More than a ruler he was a man whose life intertwined with the twilight of a glorious dynasty. Built between 1911 and 1912 the türbe reflects a nationalistic architectural style. Mimar Kemaleddin Bey designed this masterpiece. The structure stands tall made of meticulously cut stone and marble. Its high dome is capped with lead.

Notice the details. Each side boasts two upper windows and one lower window. These lower windows are capped with unique arch-like structures. Above the columns are decorative elements called burmak babaları. A marble band encircles the türbe. Ten marble steps lead to the entrance. Flanking the door are marble columns a regal welcome. The door’s lintel is crafted from pink and white marble. It bears an inscription a verse from the Quran. Above the inscription is a calligraphy of the Besmele. Hattat Süleyman Efendi created this work of art.

Inside you will find three sarcophagi. The central one holds the Sultan himself. It’s enclosed in an intricate latticework of silver. Notice the inscriptions Ya-Latif and Ya-Hafiz. These are written on the head end and are repeated on the sides. A plaque on one wall marks the Sultan’s birth death and reign.

The türbe’s garden once had a beautiful quay. Grand boats would arrive along it. It’s sadly now buried. Yet the two small pools remain. They stand as silent guardians of this special place. The garden is surrounded by a wrought-iron fence. It’s a reminder of the past. A peaceful haven reflecting the grace of the Sultan Reşad Türbesi. It’s a fitting final resting place for an Ottoman Sultan. Remember the story of a man. Remember the legacy of an empire.
