Is this where the old church used to stand? Storring Kirke, as we see it today, is a relatively new addition to the landscape. Built in 1890, it replaced a Romanesque church dating back to the 1200s. Imagine the stories those walls could tell! Although the original structure is gone, Storring Kirke pays homage to its predecessor. The high granite base that gives the church its imposing presence incorporates stones from the old church. Even the lintel above the main entrance in the tower was salvaged and given a new life. The church itself is a beautiful example of the Neo-Gothic style, designed by Aarhus architect Vilhelm Puck. Puck was known for his work on several churches in the area, including the nearby Galten Church. His vision for Storring Kirke has earned it the nickname “the village cathedral”. It’s a fitting tribute to its grandeur and the important role it plays in the community.
