Ever wondered what it’s like to chat with a mischievous alien? Here at Stitch Encounter in Shanghai Disneyland’s Tomorrowland, you can do just that. Stitch Encounter isn’t just another attraction. It’s a real-time, unscripted conversation with Experiment 626 himself, Stitch. This innovative show blends real-time animation and digital puppetry. This allows Stitch to interact with the audience. He chats, sings with his ukulele, and even takes pictures. His expressions, gestures, and voice are remarkably true to the beloved Disney film, Lilo & Stitch.
Stitch Encounter opened in Shanghai Disneyland on June 16, 2016. It joined similar interactive shows in Tokyo Disneyland and Walt Disney Studios Park. The Shanghai version of Stitch Encounter uses Mandarin. The shows typically last about 15 minutes. Each show is unique. The unscripted nature means your experience at Stitch Encounter will be different every time.
Inside the Space Traffic Control room, you’ll feel like you’re part of the action. Children are encouraged to sit at the front. This gives Stitch a clear view during the show. He can then pick audience members to interact with. The technology brings Stitch to life in a captivating way. He looks, moves, and sounds exactly like he does in the films and TV series. The voice actor skillfully mimics Chris Sanders. He is Stitch’s creator and original voice actor.
The story unfolds as you communicate with Stitch via a large screen. He’s supposedly aboard a spacecraft, ready for duty. But, of course, trouble always seems to find our little blue friend. He’s “borrowed” Captain Gantu’s ship for a joyride back to Hawaii. The Galactic Federation is tracking him. They manage to establish interstellar communication. This leads to hilarious interactions with the audience.
The fun doesn’t end there. Just as Stitch is enjoying his chat, an alert sounds. Gantu is on his way! Now, the audience gets to help Stitch escape. It’s a collaborative adventure. You’ll experience an extraterrestrial trek across the galaxy. Will Stitch make it back to his ohana? You’ll have to visit Stitch Encounter at Shanghai Disneyland to find out.
