Negoesco also coached the San Francisco Italian Athletic Club. In 1976 his team won the U.S. Open Cup championship. He became the first coach to win both the US Open Cup and an NCAA title. Among the players he mentored were John Doyle and Alejandro Toledo.

Stephen Negoesco retired in 2000. But his legacy lives on. He received numerous awards and commendations. He was inducted into several halls of fame. These include the National Soccer Hall of Fame. He was also known as the King of West Coast Soccer.

In 1982 the Negoesco Stadium was named in his honor. It stands as a lasting tribute to his contributions. Stephen Negoesco died in 2019 at the age of 93. He left behind a remarkable legacy. It continues to inspire players and coaches.
