Ever wondered what it would be like to step inside a real-life Star Wars film? At Shanghai Disneyland, the Star Wars Launch Bay once offered visitors just that. Star Wars Launch Bay opened its doors on June 16, 2016. It was nestled within Tomorrowland. The Launch Bay let you walk among authentic props and costumes. Imagine seeing Rey’s Jakku attire up close, or marveling at the intricate details of a TIE Fighter. Star Wars Launch Bay wasn’t just about static displays. You could meet iconic characters like Kylo Ren and Darth Vader. A bilingual C-3PO, fluent in Mandarin and over six million other forms of communication, greeted guests alongside R2-D2. Even Poe Dameron’s black X-Wing, although not full-sized, hung suspended from the ceiling. Star Wars Launch Bay also featured unique elements not found in other Disney parks. Before entering the main exhibit, guests were treated to a gallery of stills from the entire Star Wars saga. Kids could unleash their creativity in a LEGO play area. A special theater showed the compilation film, “Path of the Jedi.” For the ultimate photo opportunity, you could even pose inside a replica Millennium Falcon cockpit. Sadly, Star Wars Launch Bay closed its doors in June 2019. However, its memory lives on as a testament to the enduring power of the Star Wars universe.
