Perhaps you’ve never imagined sports facilities sitting atop a maintenance site? That’s exactly what you’ll find at Stade Jules Ladoumègue. It’s not just a sports center. It is a unique integration of urban planning and athletic space.
The story of Stade Jules Ladoumègue is fascinating. The city of Paris faced a complex problem. How could they rebuild part of the stadium and integrate it with the RATP’s new maintenance and storage site? The solution? Reconstruct the sports facilities on the roof of the SMR building. This includes football fields, multisports grounds, and tennis courts. Six of the tennis courts are even covered. They sit eight meters above the ground.
This project is special. It showcases mixed usage. It shows densification. It is a great example of integrating large facilities into the urban fabric. The Stade Jules Ladoumègue is more than just a stadium. It’s a testament to innovative urban design.
Look toward the entrance. Notice the new building on Route des Petits Ponts. This building houses a climbing hall and a gymnasium. There are also weight training and dance rooms. The entire project cost 26.7 million euros. Construction began in March 2011.

Though not formally certified, the project followed a rigorous environmental approach. The team used dynamic thermal simulation. They studied natural lighting and shadows. Solar protections were adapted to each orientation. Rainwater harvesting was also implemented.
Technical and architectural features enhance the stadium’s sustainability. Solar protection is provided by NACO wood, aluminum, and glass. A solar thermal installation is in place. A rainwater harvesting system collects and reuses water. Optimized natural lighting reduces energy consumption.
