“A Church for Everyone” is not just a slogan here at St Simon’s. It’s a living mission. St Simon’s Church stands proudly on Rockley Road. This Church of England parish church graces Shepherd’s Bush in London.

St Simon’s boasts a rich history dating back to the late Victorian era. The church’s foundation stone was laid on March 6 1878. John Derby Allcroft a philanthropist and MP for Worcester did the honors. The first service took place in 1880 marking an important milestone. The chancel parish hall and spire were finished by 1886.

Pause for a moment to admire the architecture of St Simon’s. Sir Arthur Blomfield a noted architect designed it in the Gothic Revival style. Notice the imposing spire and clock tower. They dominate the landscape. The tower and spire are polychrome. Horizontal bands of stonework add visual interest.

Look closely at the East window. Stained glass commemorates the first vicar Reverend Robert Handcock. It was installed in 1903. The style is rich and colourful reminiscent of Clayton and Bell.

Now turn your attention to the organ. It dates back to 1865. St Simon’s purchased it from Dunblane Cathedral in 1893. Eustace Ingram of London rebuilt it in the same year. While most music now is played on keyboard and guitars the organ is still used at Sunday morning communion services.

Take in the stenciled ornaments on the east wall. Notice the simple Gothic flower patterns. Small arches feature Christ Moses and St Simon. This reflects the style associated with Clayton and Bell Butterfield or Scott.

Today St Simon’s is surrounded by late Victorian and early Edwardian terraced housing. It sits just south of Shepherd’s Bush Green. Despite the changes around it St Simon’s retains its imposing spire and clock tower. The current vicar is The Reverend Cameron Collington.

Consider St Simon’s mission. It aims to build individual faith in Jesus Christ. It seeks to strengthen the church body as a family. St Simon’s strives to build community. It maintains and develops its building.

Reflect on the activities that take place here. Home Groups focus on Bible study prayer and relationships. A Play Cafe welcomes pre-school children parents and carers. A boxing club serves girls and boys aged 7 to 15. St Simon’s truly offers something for everyone.
