Nestled in Hendon, London, stands St Mary’s and St John’s CofE School. This isn’t just any school. It’s an all-through institution, catering to students aged 4 to 18. St Mary’s and St John’s CofE School opened its doors on September 1, 2005. It was the result of an amalgamation. The school boasts a rich history and a strong Church of England affiliation, falling under the Diocese of London. Currently, the school has a capacity of 1780 students, with around 1650 pupils currently enrolled. A significant number of these students, around 397, or 26%, are eligible for free school meals, reflecting the school’s commitment to inclusivity. Interestingly, St Mary’s and St John’s CofE School was rated “Good” by Ofsted in its most recent inspection in February 2024. This positive assessment covers various aspects, from the quality of education to leadership and management. Even the sixth form provision received a “Good” rating. Sadly, despite its success, the school is proposed to close on March 31, 2025, due to becoming an Academy Converter. Led by Principal Gavin Smith, the school is located on Sunningfields Road in Hendon, within the London Borough of Barnet. The school’s diverse student body has a high percentage of pupils with English as an additional language, reaching 67.3%. This adds another layer of richness to the school’s vibrant atmosphere. St Mary’s and St John’s CofE School is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a place where young minds are nurtured and where the community thrives. It stands as a testament to the power of education and the importance of inclusivity.
