Have you ever noticed a church on a hill? St Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church stands tall on a hill overlooking the city of Manor. It is an important part of the community, known for its welcoming atmosphere and inclusive nature. The church was built in 2014 as a near replica of an old Episcopal church built in Matagorda, Texas. The architect’s vision was to create a space that reflected the history of the Episcopal faith while incorporating modern amenities. St Mary Magdalene wasn’t always a church building. It started in the living room of a local priest, Rev. Alex Montes-Vela, with only five people. They moved to a meeting space at Manor High School where their numbers continued to grow. The church had its Grand Opening on September 12, 2010, and four and a half years later they moved into their new home on Lexington Street. Perhaps you have driven by on US Highway 290 and seen this church with its red door on the hill. The church is a testament to the dedication of its members and serves as a spiritual home for people from all backgrounds.
