“German settlement patterns,” they called it. Right here we see a reminder of that very thing. This is the Klattenhoff House Plaque. It marks a place of significant history.

William Klattenhoff was a German native. He lived from 1855 to 1928. William immigrated to Texas in 1872. He was just 17 years old.

He found work on the International and Great Northern Railroad. This work brought him to Hutto. In 1876, he purchased land here.

Two years later, in 1878, William married Alvina Plattow. Alvina was born in 1860 and lived until 1958. After the marriage, William built their first house on this very property. The Klattenhoffs didn’t stop there. They acquired more land here. They also bought property in Tom Green County.

In 1905, the Klattenhoffs helped establish a school in Tom Green County. This school later became the Klattenhoff Community Center. William’s success grew over time. He was a farmer, a rancher, and a businessman.

His success allowed them to build a second, larger home in 1896. This homestead is a testament to their hard work.

The Klattenhoff House remained in the family for generations. It was still a Klattenhoff family property at the turn of the 21st century. This plaque commemorates their legacy. It serves as a reminder. It reminds us of the German settlement patterns in Texas. The Klattenhoff family’s story is one of immigration, hard work, and community building. Their contributions helped shape this area.

So take a moment to appreciate the Klattenhoff House Plaque. It is more than just a marker. It represents a family’s journey. It symbolizes the spirit of early Texas settlers. Their story is etched in history.
