The building in front of you is St Mark’s with St Margaret. It is a Grade-I listed Anglican church in London. St Mark’s with St Margaret is a fascinating place with a rich history. It was built in 1847 by the architects Thomas Cundy and his son Thomas. They designed it as a church for the new villa dwellers who were moving to this previously rural area of London. St Mark’s with St Margaret was very closely linked to the foundation of St John’s School, Leatherhead. This is where Lewis Carroll, author of the famous Alice books, studied. This church was a real hub of the community then and continues to thrive today. The church has stood as a beacon of hope for many people, providing a place of worship and peace during times of both joy and hardship.
