This grand building, standing tall and proud, is St. Mark’s Catholic School. It’s been educating young minds in Hounslow, West London, since 1961. The school was originally called Archbishop Myers Secondary, but it was renamed St. Mark’s in 1972 after becoming a voluntary aided school. Its first 279 pupils were welcomed by Headteacher Patrick Boland in 1960 and, over the decades, St. Mark’s has grown into a thriving community. You might not know this, but the school used to have a split site, with the senior school being located at the other end of Hounslow High Street. These plans were abandoned though, and in 1978, the former Ss Michael and Martin’s Primary School buildings were integrated into the St. Mark’s site. One fun fact: the original parish church, dating back to 1886, is used as the school’s common room for the sixth form students. St. Mark’s is now a co-educational, faith-based secondary school and sixth form with academy status, and its halls and grounds are filled with the energy and laughter of over 1,200 students.
