The cornerstone was blessed in 1958. The church was finally completed and consecrated in 1960. The First Lady Leonila Dimataga-Garcia even attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The weekly novena to St Jude started in 1959. It has been held every Thursday since then. The devotion spread rapidly. Devotees from all walks of life flock to the shrine. The sheer number of people attending services every Thursday led to its elevation in 1994. It became the Archdiocesan Shrine of Saint Jude. In 2010 it reached its highest honor. It became the National Shrine of Saint Jude Thaddeus.
