Standing right before you is St David’s RC High School, a testament to the rich history of education and faith in Edinburgh. Founded in 1854, its doors originally opened as a small school in the heart of Dalkeith. This was a time of great change for Scotland, with a wave of Irish immigrants arriving in Edinburgh after the potato famine, seeking refuge and new beginnings. Many of these newcomers were Catholic, leading to the establishment of a dedicated Catholic school in Dalkeith.

The school quickly gained a reputation for its dedication to education and religious values. It was then led by the Sisters of Mercy, a Catholic order known for their commitment to serving the community, from 1876 until around 1940. Imagine the dedication and compassion these sisters brought while they were teaching the children of Dalkeith during those years. Their legacy continues to inspire the students of St David’s today.

St David’s RC High School has been educating generations of young minds ever since. It has always been a beacon of hope and learning in the community. The school has gone through many changes over the years, from its humble beginnings to its current location on Cousland Road, where it has shared a campus with Dalkeith High School since 2003. This merger brought together two proud educational institutions to create an innovative and vibrant learning environment.

Today, St David’s RC High School is a thriving community, filled with students who are passionate about learning and committed to making a difference in the world. It is a place where tradition meets innovation, where faith and education go hand in hand. And as you stand here, take a moment to appreciate the rich history that surrounds you, and the generations of students who have walked through its doors.
