Remember those old school days? Wallyford Primary School stands as a testament to education’s evolution. Let me tell you about its journey.

Wallyford Primary School serves the growing population of Wallyford. The original village school dated back to 1909. It stood next to the former school on Salters Road. Houses now occupy that site. More classrooms became necessary in the 1960s. The three-story building accommodated extra pupils.

The former Wallyford Primary School faced demolition. Kinetic Demolition from Edinburgh handled the task. Demolition began last month and took about 12 weeks. The school was built in 1953. It was replaced by a new one on Futures Way. This new school cost £18.9 million. Pupils moved into the new school in February last year.

The old school at Salters Road could no longer meet the community’s needs. The increasing population caused this. Land was secured for a new campus. It is on the east side of the village. This was part of the St Clement’s Wells development. The campus offers modern educational facilities. It provides room for a growing school population. It also features plenty of outdoor space. Hub South East was the council’s development partner. Morrison Construction was the contractor.

Now, let’s talk about the new Wallyford Primary School. It’s one of the largest primary schools in Scotland. It provides 28 classrooms and four nursery classes. There are places for 120 pre-school children. The school offers resources for community use. These include a new library.

Designed for the future, the school has expansion plans. These accommodate projected increases in school rolls. Outside, you’ll find all-weather pitches. Basketball hoops, landscaping, and grassed areas are also available. The school serves as a community hub. It is positioned at the heart of the town.

The Scottish Government partially funded it through Scotland’s Schools for the Future programme. The Scottish Futures Trust manages this programme. The school’s construction resulted in £5.8 million of social value for the local area. The building has received positive feedback.

Wallyford Primary School also won an award. It won Development of the Year at the Scottish Property Awards 2020. It was recognized for public buildings.

The new Wallyford Primary School stands on a greenfield site. It will form part of a central hub in a newly developed area. The school meets the rising roll in the area. This is due to significant residential developments.

The project combines different schools into one location. It also incorporates additional support needs spaces. The community can access the school library and other facilities. The initial phase created a school for about 900 pupils. Phase 2 will make it the largest primary school in Scotland.

From its humble beginnings to its modern facilities, Wallyford Primary School has adapted. It has evolved to meet the changing needs of its community. Its story reflects a commitment to education. It highlights the importance of investing in future generations.
