Concrete walls embrace the sky at St. Christoph. This is no ordinary church. It stands as a testament to modern architecture and faith. Let’s delve into the story of St. Christoph in Munich.

St. Christoph was consecrated in 1971. The church is located at Am Blutenanger 7. It is in the Fasanerie-Nord district of Feldmoching-Hasenbergl. The church was designed by Munich architects Erhard Fischer.

But there is more to St. Christoph. Its history stretches back further. A predecessor church, the Alte St.-Christoph-Kirche, was built in 1926/1927. It is located at Pfarrer-Himmler-Strasse 3. In 1971, the new St. Christoph was erected about 1 km east. A bell tower was added in 1993. The bells from 1971 were moved from a steel support to the new tower.

In 2003, St. Christoph joined St. Johannes Evangelist. Together, they formed the Fasanerie parish association. From 2012 to 2017, they expanded to include St. Peter and Paul Feldmoching. Since 2018, St. Christoph is part of the PACEM parish association. This includes St. Agnes and St. Matthäus.

St. Christoph is part of the Feldmoching-Hasenbergl cultural history trail. The interior is enclosed by exposed concrete walls. It faces south. The roof is supported by steel columns. A wide glass band lets light flood the space. A sacraments chapel connects to the main room.

Originally, the bells stood outside. The foundation stone for the tower was laid in 1993. The tower does not blend with the other buildings. These buildings include the rectory, parish office, main church, and kindergarten.

A fountain and a steel sculpture decorate the church square. Alf Lechner created the sculpture in 1991.

Inside, a large mural dominates the wall behind the altar. Edzard Seeger created “The Apocalyptic Lamb” in 1982. The baptismal font echoes the church’s cubic form. An old Marian figure stands near the entrance to the weekday church. The weekday church holds a crucifix, Easter candlestick, tabernacle, and 14 Stations of the Cross.

The organ was built in 1976 by Walcker. It features 24 stops across two manuals and a pedal. Christoph Kaps renovated it in 2004.

St. Christoph stands as a unique blend of modern design and religious tradition. Its walls tell stories of community, art, and faith. As you leave St. Christoph, consider its place in Munich’s spiritual and architectural landscape.
