“A church on the green meadow?” you might ask. Yes, that’s how St. Cäcilia in Germering started its journey. Back in 1960, when the town was still finding its feet, this church was consecrated, a beacon amidst the fields. It was architect Walter Ehm’s vision, a blend of modern and ancient, a nod to the basilica style. Red bricks form its skin, a warm contrast to the grey gabled roof. Don’t miss the freestanding tower with its golden clocks, keeping watch over the town. Inside, a musical surprise awaits – a magnificent organ. The original, built in 1963, had a short lifespan. By 1980, it was already showing signs of wear. Enter Georg Jann, the organ builder, with guidance from the renowned Franz Lehrndorfer. Their creation? A 26-register masterpiece, ringing out with the spirit of St. Cäcilia. And speaking of spirits, St. Cäcilia herself, patron saint of music, seems to reside here. The church even lent its name to the concert society “Musica Sacra,” now simply “Musica Sacra e.V.” They fill this space with the glorious sounds of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and other masterpieces. St. Cäcilia, a testament to faith and music, a beacon that continues to shine brightly in the heart of Germering.
