“Imagine a sprawling mid-century home, overlooking a tranquil lake, hosting parties, laughter, and countless memories.” That’s the legacy of the property now home to St. Benedict’s Anglican Church. You might not recognize it as a church at first glance. That’s because St. Benedict’s isn’t your typical church building. It once belonged to Congressman Ralph Hall and his wife, Mary Ellen. They purchased the home in 1973 and filled it with warmth, family, and faith until their passing in 2008 and 2019. But the story doesn’t end there. When it came time for the Hall family to part with their beloved home, fate intervened. Alma Williams-Howard, a friend of the family and a member of St. Benedict’s, saw a unique opportunity. The church was searching for a permanent home, and this property seemed like the perfect fit. The stars aligned. The house was weeks away from going on the market, and the Hall family was relieved to see it transformed into a place of worship instead of facing potential demolition by developers. Today, St. Benedict’s Anglican Church embraces the spirit of the Hall family. The massive pool, once a hub for gatherings, is now a serene memorial garden honoring Mary Ellen. The family room, once echoing with laughter, now hosts a growing congregation, eager to learn, love, and serve. It’s a testament to the enduring power of faith, family, and community, all woven into the fabric of St. Benedict’s Anglican Church.
