The story begins not here but a short distance away on Upton Lane. In 1862, a group of Ursuline sisters from Belgium established a school in what was then the village of Upton. They began their mission in “Old House” but soon outgrew the space. By May of that same year, they had opened a school in Sun Row, now known as Green Street. This marked the humble beginnings of St Anthony’s Roman Catholic Primary School. Through the years, St Anthony’s Roman Catholic Primary School has seen its share of transformations. It changed locations, witnessed the separation and eventual merging of boys and girls’ education, and even incorporated a nursery. Each change reflects the evolving educational landscape and the school’s unwavering commitment to providing the best possible learning environment for its students. Although now closed, the legacy of St Anthony’s Roman Catholic Primary School lives on in the memories it nurtured.
