Founded in 1983, St Andrews Christian College began in Surrey Hills. The goal was simple. It should be a Christian school reflecting Christ. The school helps students reach their potential. It all started with one teacher and ten students.
In 1998, St Andrews Christian College relocated to Burwood. By 2000, the college was able to offer secondary classes. The first group of Year 12 students graduated in 2005. Then in 2010, St Andrews Christian College found its current home in Wantirna South.
The logo of St Andrews Christian College tells a story. It represents the Christian ethos. It shows the need for personal faith in Jesus Christ. It symbolizes that all endeavors should bring glory to God. The shield has the cross of St Andrew. It is a white cross with a blue background. Andrew was a disciple of Jesus. He is known for his faith and for bringing others to Christ.
The cross also represents the Scottish Flag. This indicates the school’s origin with the Presbyterian Church. The Presbyterian Church had its foundation in Scotland. The shield shape represents the shield of faith. The motto reminds everyone that all they do should bring Glory to God.
St Andrews Christian College has three houses. They are Barton, Deakin and Parkes. Each house includes students and teachers. Throughout the year, students compete for house points. Points are awarded for academics, sports and good behavior. Barton is red and stands for strength, honor and wisdom. It is named after Sir Edmund Barton. He was Australia’s first Prime Minister. Deakin is yellow and means iron sharpens iron. It is named after Alfred Deakin. He was Australia’s second Prime Minister. Parkes is green and means God is Our Light. It is named after Sir Henry Parkes. He was an Australian politician and the Father of Federation.
St Andrews Christian College has been recognized for academic excellence. In 2009, it was one of the top 50 schools in Australia. This was based on overall academic performance. Since 2010, it has consistently ranked among the top primary schools in Victoria. It placed as high as third overall in 2012. St Andrews Christian College has also been a top 20 secondary school in the state since 2012.
