This temple is dedicated to Sri Siva-Krishna. This deity is a unique combination of Lord Siva and Lord Krishna. This deity represents creation, preservation, and destruction.
Back in 1962, Mr. Kunjukrishnan had a vision. He cleared a small piece of land on Sembawang Road. There he placed several shrines and deities. He started praying. Taxi drivers often gathered here for relaxation. After Mr. Kunjukrishnan’s death, Mr. Velayutham expanded the site. He added even more deities. Over time, it became known as the Sri Siva Krishna Temple. More devotees came. The temple’s surroundings were kept clean and dignified.
In 1982, the Sri Siva Krishna Temple moved here to Marsiling Rise. The land spans about 25,000 square feet. From 1982 to 1987, different committees managed the temple. In 1987, a new committee broke ground. The Shanku Sthapanam ceremony happened on Wednesday, December 9, 1987. Then construction began. The first consecration took place on September 1, 1996. The second happened on March 23, 2008.
Look around and see the many deities. The Sri Siva Krishna Temple houses Sri Vinayagar. Of course, there is Sri Siva-Krishnar. You can find Sri Murugan and Sri Durga. Also here are Sri Lakshmi and Sri Saraswathi. Sri Ramar, Sri Seethai and Sri Lakshmanar are represented. Devotees also worship Sri Anjaneyar and Sri Iyappan. Don’t forget Sri Mariamman and Sri Periyachi. You’ll also find Sri Idumbar and Sri Nagamma. Sri Dakshinamurthy, Sri Viswanathar and Visalakshi are here. Then there are Sri Nandheeswarar and Sri Karuppar. Also residing here are Sri Muneeswarar, Sri Madurai Veeran and Sri Bairavar. Finally, you’ll see Sri Chandikeswarar and the Navagrahas.
In March 2022, the Sri Siva Krishna Temple opened a four-story extension. It has a multipurpose hall and dance studio. Classrooms and a roof terrace are also part of it. People of all backgrounds are welcome to use these facilities. The temple hosts an annual street procession. The deity is carried in a chariot. It blesses devotees throughout Woodlands.
The Sri Siva Krishna Temple also conducts social, educational, and cultural activities. Various pujas and homams happen regularly. The temple provides indoor and outdoor services. Even wedding ceremonies are held here.
Notice the statues of a bull for Lord Siva and Sri Garuda for Lord Krishna. They stand before the main sanctum. In February 2024, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong joined over 10,000 devotees for a consecration ceremony. An eagle circling the tower was seen as an auspicious sign. It represented the garuda deity. The Sri Siva Krishna Temple stands as a beacon. It shines with devotion. It serves the community. It embodies Singapore’s spiritual heart.
