Take a moment to step off the bustling street and into Square Marcel Rajman. It’s a small haven of peace amidst the city’s hustle, named after Marcel Rajman, a Polish Jewish volunteer fighter in the French Resistance during World War II. Rajman was a brave and dedicated man, known for his leadership skills, and his commitment to fighting against oppression. During his time as the head of the “Stalingrad” group, even against extreme odds, he led daring attacks against the Nazi regime.

The square itself is a charming green space, featuring benches, a small fountain, and a sculpture of a bird. It’s a great place to take a break from sightseeing, enjoy the sunshine, or simply watch the world go by. It might not seem like much, but this square is a place for reflection and remembrance. It’s a dedication to a man who fought for justice and equality, and a reminder of the sacrifices that were made in the fight against tyranny.

One of the most interesting facts about their square is that a memorial ceremony was held there in honor of Rajman on the 21st of February 2019. This is a reminder of the ongoing efforts to recognize and honor those who fought for freedom during the war. You can still find the names of the 23 members of Manouchian’s group inscribed on a plaque at the Panthéon, another reminder of the sacrifices made.

So the next time you’re in Paris, make sure to visit Square Marcel Rajman. It’s a small piece of history, a place to reflect on the past and appreciate the freedom we enjoy today.
