Isn’t it lovely? Square des Acrobates is more than just a green space. It’s a breath of fresh air in the heart of Saint-Denis.

This vibrant urban park offers a unique blend of nature and recreation. It’s a place where families, professionals, and even students from the nearby circus school can come to relax and play.

Square des Acrobates emerged from the industrial past of Plaine Saint-Denis. This area transformed from farmland to a major industrial zone. After the 1970s crisis, the area needed revitalization. The creation of the Square des Acrobates was part of this urban renewal.

Notice the park’s design. It reflects the geometric layout of the surrounding area. Landscape architects added touches of whimsy and lightness. Unlike the area’s hard surfaces, greenery dominates.

Take a look around. You’ll see a vast lawn dotted with clusters of tall trees. These “Boscos” create a sense of wonder. They offer both secluded spots and open spaces.

The landscape architects, Florence Robert and Frédéric Boeuf, collaborated with the city to select a diverse array of plants. They aimed for year-round visual appeal with a mix of deciduous and evergreen trees.

Feel free to wander. The paths are intentionally limited. This encourages visitors to explore the grassy expanse.

The eastern part of Square des Acrobates dips slightly. This creates a grassy hollow. During heavy rains, this area temporarily floods. This helps prevent the neighborhood’s drainage system from being overwhelmed.

Notice the gentle slopes leading up from the street. They are covered in perennials and small flowering trees. This adds to the garden’s intimate feel.

Let’s head west. Along the path parallel to Rue des Cheminots, you’ll see small alcoves. These are sheltered by mixed hedges and provide seating.

The Square des Acrobates has three play areas. These are designed for different age groups. Each area has distinct colors and themes. The play structures are made of wood. This retains the natural look of branches and trunks.

For the little ones, there are swings and a small train on a soft green surface. For older children, a blue and “sandy” area features a lighthouse and a ship’s prow. The oldest kids can enjoy ball games on a gray-black surface.

You might notice the park’s furnishings. The benches, tables, and waste bins are made of wood. The kiosk near Rue Federico Fellini is also made of wood. It is painted a dark red and is designed to be covered in climbing plants.

The fence surrounding Square des Acrobates is made of metal bars painted in shades of green and blue. The lighting fixtures also incorporate these colors.

The Square des Acrobates’ name comes from the nearby Annie Fratellini Circus School. This adds to the park’s playful character. It’s a fitting tribute to the acrobats who inspire creativity and joy.

Square des Acrobates is a testament to thoughtful urban planning. It combines aesthetics, functionality, and environmental consciousness. It’s a place where you can relax, play, and connect with nature.
