Have you ever wondered how three churches could come together under one roof? It may sound like an unlikely story, but that’s precisely what happened here, at the SpringHouse Ministry Center. This unique ministry center in Minneapolis is a testament to the power of shared faith and innovative collaboration.
Standing here today, you see a building with a rich history. It was once the home of Salem English Lutheran Church. The church was struggling, as was nearby Lyndale United Church of Christ. In 2006, Salem moved in with Lyndale, sharing the space. After years of working together, they decided to reach out to First Christian Church. First Christian, unfortunately, was also struggling to maintain their aging building. Together, the three congregations saw a chance to create something more meaningful, more sustainable.
In 2011, they formally agreed to share space in the renovated old building of Salem. The congregations poured over a million dollars each into the restoration of the old Lutheran sanctuary, ensuring that it would be a home for all of them. The old church pews of Salem’s original sanctuary were even reused as ceiling beams in the lower-level sanctuary.
The SpringHouse Ministry Center offers three distinct worship spaces, but the congregations rotate seasonally, so that no one group feels like they own an area. They share more than just the space. They also gather together for their children’s and youth ministries and even celebrate baptisms collectively. They truly embody the spirit of unity found in their shared faith.
The SpringHouse Ministry Center is a unique and inspiring story of what’s possible when people come together with a common goal. Even though they are different denominations, their commitment to their communities brought them together, creating a stronger, more sustainable future.
