Can a statue embody the spirit of a football club? At the Groupama Arena, the Springer-szobor stands as a testament to one man’s dedication. This statue honors Ferenc Springer, founder and president of Ferencváros. The Springer-szobor isn’t a likeness of Springer himself. It’s a symbolic representation of his impact on the club. Originally unveiled in 1922 at the FTC’s old grounds, the Springer-szobor has witnessed the club’s history. It remained even after FTC moved out in 1971. The statue later found a new home at the Albert Florian Stadion in 1977. Even during the stadium’s redevelopment in 2013, the Springer-szobor was carefully stored. It returned proudly to its place in July 2014. The inscription on the plinth reads, “Dr. Springer. Ferencnek a FTC alapító elnökének,” which translates to “Dr. Springer. Founder and president of Ferencváros.” This simple yet powerful statement captures Springer’s legacy. The Springer-szobor, made of stone and sculpted by Lajos Mátray, serves as a reminder. Ferenc Springer’s vision continues to inspire Ferencváros, even today.
