“What does the name mean?” someone asks. Spring Lake Park became a village in 1953. The name Spring Lake Park was chosen because it seemed to represent the area well.

Let’s step back to the origins of Spring Lake Park. The area was initially part of Manomin County. Manomin County was established way back in May 1857. It encompassed areas like Columbia Heights, Fridley and Hilltop.

In April 1870, things shifted. The people of Manomin County asked to become part of Anoka County. Their request was granted and they were accepted as a Township.

Fast forward to 1936. Spring Lake Park opened for development by the Bronson-Erickson real estate agency. The developers wanted a name that reflected the area’s character. So, Spring Lake Park was chosen.

Now, let’s talk about growth. Spring Lake Park has experienced substantial growth. In 1960, the city’s population was 3,260. Today, it has grown to over 5,450 residents. The city is now home to more than 2,600 houses and 1,690 families. It has become a charming and close-knit community.
