Here at the Spiritual Life Church of God in Christ, that story is one of faith, perseverance, and a deep commitment to the community. Founded in 1979, the Spiritual Life Church of God in Christ was more than just a place of worship. It was a beacon of hope, born from the vision of the late Assistant Superintendent Willie J. Brown. He started with nothing but a calling from God, a calling that led him to an agreement with Bishop Haynes for a humble building, Collins Chapel. The name, however, was not random. The Lord instructed Elder Brown to name it Spiritual Life Church of God in Christ, a testament to the vibrant spirituality he envisioned within its walls. Imagine that first service: Elder Brown preaching to a congregation of only his wife, children, and brother. It’s a story of humble beginnings that would blossom into a thriving community over the years. The church wasn’t without trials. In 1991, driven by divine inspiration, the church embarked on a major renovation project. Despite facing financial hurdles and even enduring severe flooding that submerged the building in three feet of water, the congregation remained undeterred. Their faith was unshakeable, and their commitment to the Spiritual Life Church of God in Christ never wavered. This tenacious spirit led them to overcome every obstacle. They finally celebrated the completion of their modern, beautiful church – a true testament to what faith and community can achieve.
