Picture this a whimsical house perched on a corner in Beverly Hills. This is the Spadena House also known as the Witch’s House. Its quirky charm is undeniable. A fairytale cottage seemingly dropped into a bustling city.

The Spadena House is more than just a pretty face. It boasts a rich history. Designed by Hollywood art director Harry Oliver in 1921 it started life as offices and dressing rooms for Irvin Willat’s film studio in Culver City. Imagine actors preparing for their roles in this unusual space.

In 1926 the Spadena House embarked on a journey. It was moved to its current location in Beverly Hills. The Spadena family who lived here first gave it their name. Later a second family lived in the house. They renovated the interior. They also filled the original moat-like pond.

By 1997 the Spadena House was in disrepair. It faced demolition. Michael Libow a real estate agent stepped in. He bought it to save it from destruction. He renovated the home restoring its unique charm. The Spadena House stands as a testament to his efforts. It is now a protected landmark.

The Spadena House continues to captivate. Its intentionally dilapidated design creates a magical atmosphere. The pointy lopsided roof tiny windows and overgrown garden are enchanting. It is a whimsical delight a true fairytale home. It’s even appeared in movies like Clueless. Some consider it a precursor to Disney’s Imagineering. The Spadena House is a reminder that even in a world of skyscrapers and sleek modern architecture. Fairytales can come true.
