In 1926, a silent Western star’s ranch became the heart of 20th Century Fox Studios. William Fox, the visionary behind the studio, purchased Tom Mix’s sprawling 176-acre property. This land, nestled between what would become Santa Monica and Pico Boulevards, was christened “Movietone City.” 20th Century Fox Studios wasn’t always the iconic landmark we see today. It began as a merger between Fox Film Corporation and Twentieth Century Pictures in 1935. This union created a powerhouse in the entertainment industry. The studio quickly became a hub of creativity and innovation. William Fox had already secured the rights to the Movietone sound system. With the advent of “talkies,” he accelerated the construction of state-of-the-art soundstages at the new studio. Many of these stages still bear the Fox Movietone logos above their doors, a testament to the studio’s pioneering spirit. 20th Century Fox Studios has been the birthplace of countless cinematic masterpieces. From epic dramas to groundbreaking musicals, its stages have witnessed the magic of filmmaking unfold. Today, the 20th Century Fox Studios backlot is a dynamic hub for all aspects of film and television production. It boasts fifteen sound stages of varying sizes, on-site production services, screening rooms, and post-production suites. The historic New York Street backdrop remains a popular filming location. Established in 2000 the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics IPAM stands proudly on the UCLA campus. A testament to
