“Can a memorial bridge continents?” a voice whispered behind you. You turn around to face the Souvenirs des soldats de Magadascar. This poignant monument stands as a solemn tribute to the 41,000 Malagasy soldiers who fought for France during World War I. These brave men, known as the Tirailleurs Malgaches, were deployed far from home. They fought on various fronts, primarily in Europe. Tragically over 2,000 of them made the ultimate sacrifice. The Souvenirs des soldats de Magadascar reminds us of their courage and the sacrifices made by soldiers from all corners of the world.
