You see, the original South Shore High School, founded in 1940, faced overcrowding in the 1960s. The solution? A multi-million dollar extension that took years to complete due to budget revisions and other delays. This newer addition actually stood for several decades, eventually housing various specialized programs. However, by the early 2010s, it was decided that a new approach was needed. The extension was demolished, and in its place rose the South Shore International College Preparatory High School we see today, a fresh start for a new era. This new institution wasn’t just a physical upgrade; it became a selective enrollment magnet school, drawing bright minds from all corners of Chicago. It carries the legacy of South Shore High School, even adopting its original team name, the “Tars”, and colors: kelly green and royal blue.
