South Austin Neighborhood Park is more than just green space. It’s a place where the community’s dreams took root. The neighborhood association fought hard to acquire this land. It took them years to convince the city of its worth. Finally, in 1986, their persistence paid off. The city agreed that this priceless asset was worth the price.

Imagine this land undeveloped for many years. PARD was always cash strapped. Extra funds for developing and maintaining parkland were hard to come by. The park stood undeveloped for years.

Later, the Woodhue Community Neighborhood Watch stepped in. They identified the undeveloped lot as a safety problem. This motivated them to transform it into a usable park. They cleared the land and obtained grant money. The city finally gave it some attention. After 30 years, Armadillo Park was finally designed and developed.
