The Songpu Bridge, completed in 1976, was a vital transportation link for the Jinshan Petrochemical Complex. This double-decker bridge carried both highway and railway traffic. The upper level served as part of the 320 National Highway and Cheting Highway. The lower level originally carried the Jinshan branch of the Shanghai-Hangzhou Railway. This railway line was a single track and never electrified. The Songpu 2nd Bridge, built to accommodate the expanding city and increased traffic, carries on this legacy of connection and progress.
