Did you know that Söndermarkskolen has a tower like Rundetårn? It’s true. Here we are at Söndermarkskolen. This school has a fascinating story.

Söndermarkskolen got its name from Söndermarken. The school opened in 1934. Gustav Hagen designed it. He was an architect.

The need for a new school was huge then. Lindevangsskolen opened before it. Still another school was needed. Söndermarkskolen was built for 1000 students. Soon 1450 children were attending in 46 classes. Imagine that.

Now look at the tower in the schoolyard. Notice anything odd? There are no stairs. Instead a ramp winds up like Rundetårn. At the top is an astronomical observatory.

Also note the reliefs around the school. Max Andersen created them. He was a sculptor.

Söndermarkskolen is still growing. It embraces new technology. Students learn robotics with LEGO Mindstorms. They also study programming. Söndermarkskolen is being renovated now. Classes are at Hoffmeyersvej and Nyelandsgården. The school is divided between these two locations.

Söndermarkskolen works with FCK. Players from F.C. Copenhagen Talent attend here. They are in 7th through 9th grade.

Traditions are important here. They build community. They create a sense of belonging at Söndermarkskolen.

Söndermarkskolen focuses on each student. They value academic social and personal growth. The school fosters a thriving community. Söndermarkskolen believes well-being and learning go together.

So next time you pass Söndermarkskolen remember its unique tower. Think of the many students who have learned here. Consider its commitment to community and growth.
