It stands before you, modest but strong: Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church of Austin. The Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church of Austin is a spiritual haven in the heart of Austin. Founded in 1981 by Pastor Thomas L. Sneed, the church began its journey as a humble gathering in a rural corner of the city, where weeds and tall grass once grew. Pastor Sneed had a vision, guided by God, to establish a church at the intersection of Gardner and Bolm roads. He saw this location as a place of divine calling. Driven by his faith, Pastor Sneed persevered through trials and tribulations, and with the help of five founding members, he purchased land and built the first structure. The name “Solid Rock” came from a serendipitous choice, where all five founding members, without coordination, picked the same name out of a hat. The faith of Pastor Sneed and the dedication of his members led to the construction of a second building, a testament to the growth of the congregation. The church flourished under Pastor Sneed’s leadership until his passing in 2016. God’s hand continued to guide the church as Pastor John M. Perez, following in Moses’ footsteps, succeeded Pastor Sneed as the second pastor. With the same dedication, Pastor Perez embraced the legacy of Pastor Sneed, continuing to spread the message of love and faith throughout the Austin community. Today, Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church of Austin continues to be a beacon of hope and a place of spiritual strength for many in the city. The church embraces the mission of spreading the Gospel and the love of Christ, striving to create a community of authentic believers who work to transform their city.
