Legend says the Prince, captivated by Paquetá’s beauty, even dubbed it “Island of Love.” He returned often, always choosing the Fonseca family’s mansion as his retreat. The Solar del Rei’s royal connections didn’t end there. In 1946, owner Edmundo Barreto Pinto officially christened it “Solar del Rei.” Years later, in 1961, Barreto Pinto transferred ownership to the State of Guanabara. The Solar del Rei then embarked on a new chapter. It housed the Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions, starting in 1965.
