From humble beginnings Sojourn Campus Church stands tall. Its story is one of faith perseverance and community. Originally known as Christians in Action University Church Sojourn began in 1980. It emerged from Chi Alpha a campus ministry under K K John an evangelist from India. Jim Bradford a shy engineering student took the reins. He faced challenges but through prayer and fasting the ministry grew.
By the late 1970s many considered the student group their church. So the group transitioned into a church. The early years saw a dynamic mix of students young professionals and families. Discipleship and discipleship households were key. Young Christians found their faith through worship community and guidance. A baby boom followed a marriage boom. By the late 80s 90 children were part of a 200-member congregation.
In 1988 founding pastor Jim Bradford moved to California. Mark Durene and Paul Irwin led the church for nine years navigating a transitional period. Craig Krueger became pastor in 1997. He renewed the campus vision while serving everyone. A partnership with International Student Ministry flourished. Many students particularly Chinese came to Christ through Alpha a discipleship course. American students gained cross-cultural skills.
