“Next stop: Söğütlüçeşme!” That announcement likely echoes in the minds of countless commuters. Söğütlüçeşme Railway Station stands as a vital hub in Istanbul’s bustling Kadıköy district.

Today, we’ll uncover the story of Söğütlüçeşme. It is more than just a transit point. It is a place where journeys begin and connections are made.

Originally opened in 1872, Söğütlüçeşme Railway Station has witnessed Istanbul’s transformation. The station was part of a railway stretching from Kadıköy to İzmit. In 1880, the Ottoman Anatolian Railway acquired it. Later, in 1924, the Turkish government took control.

Söğütlüçeşme became a suburban stop in 1951. It was electrified in 1969. The current station was rebuilt between 1975 and 1979. It finally opened in 1985.

For a time, Söğütlüçeşme was the only suburban station linked to Istanbul’s public transport network. This happened when the Metrobus extended here in 2009. However, Söğütlüçeşme station closed in 2013. It was part of the Marmaray project’s railway rehabilitation. Söğütlüçeşme reopened in March 2019.

Söğütlüçeşme is conveniently located near key landmarks. Söğütlüçeşme Park offers a green escape. The Metrobus provides connections to Üsküdar and Levent. Kadıköy’s city center is a short distance to the west. Fenerbahçe S.K.’s Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium lies southeast. The Kadıköy Municipality Headquarters is directly north.

Many public transportation lines serve Söğütlüçeşme. Buses connect Söğütlüçeşme to various neighborhoods.

The station itself features two island platforms. Four tracks run through it. Söğütlüçeşme efficiently manages the flow of passengers.

Think about the faces that have passed through Söğütlüçeşme. Consider the dreams carried on trains departing from its platforms. From its Ottoman origins to its modern role, Söğütlüçeşme reflects Istanbul’s dynamic spirit. It connects people to their destinations and to the city’s rich history.
