Opened in January 2024 Sluseholmen Skole welcomes 840 students across five floors. Its architects JJW Arkitekter and Thing Brandt Landskab created a light-filled space. The design encourages flexible learning. It connects students to the surrounding harbor environment. This earned it the title “Sluseholmen’s Green Urban School”.
The school’s construction is a story in itself. BAM Danmark the contractor used prefabricated Rockzero wall elements. This reduced construction time and increased usable space. These elements are remarkably slim. They provide exceptional sound insulation vital in a busy urban setting. They reduce outside noise by up to 58 decibels. This creates a peaceful learning environment for students. The choice of Rockwool also minimized the environmental impact. It ensured the project met stringent energy requirements.
This focus on sustainability extended to material selection. The location demanded specific construction materials. The building had to meet future building regulations. The use of lightweight facades minimized the amount of concrete. This reduces the building’s carbon footprint.
